Urban “Renewal”

A couple, few blocks from work in downtown Portland, OR is the Ancient Order of United Workmen Temple.  At least for the next little bit.  As with so many other parts of old Portland, it is being demolished to make way for a new building.  One that is likely to be far more environmentally friendly, better able to withstand earthquakes, and have less a thousandth of the character of this 19th century building.  Before its final demise, I got some pictures which shows off its unique architecture.

They don’t make buildings like this anymore, but they could if they cared about more than just their totals in Excel.
